My Spooky Season TBR

September 3, 2025

It’s here! The best time of the year! Time to break out your Spooky Stacks, #WickedGoodReads, and start #ImbibingPeril! I’ll also be reading for Murder, Monsters, and Mayhem and FrightFall events. My Fall TBR is sooooo long, but here are a few books that I’m prioritizing.

I feel like I have a good mix of horror tropes here. Notice that I’ve got two T. Kingfisher books on this list because she is essential spooky season reading! Hemlock and Silver is a ‘dark reimagining of Snow White’ and I think it’s going to have the perfect mix of fantasy and horror that Kingfisher is famous for. Also by Kingfisher, I’ve got the 3rd novella in the Sworn Soldier series. This one is called What Stalks the Deep and it involves an abandoned coal mine. Yikes!

Bat Eater is one that I picked up after seeing some trusted book bloggers rave about it. I’m excited to see if I like it too.

Rachel Harrison is perfect spooky season reading and I can’t resist her new book, Play Nice about a house inhabited by a demon. I mean, look at that cover!

Don’t Let the Forest In is another novella about a boy whose macabre drawings are coming to life and killing people. He and his friend must come together to fight the monsters. This just looks like a quick read that will be a great buffer between my longer horror novel plans.

Speaking of longer, enter Chuck Wendig. I have loved everything I’ve read from him and so far, the audio of Black River Orchard is not disappointing. This one will take me a bit to get through because I’m a slow reader but I know it will be worth it!

What else should I read?
