Bookmarked 2024 Week 35

August 31, 2024

How has your week been? What have you been reading? I recently finished Yellowface, R.F. Kuang – outstanding – the new novel from T. Kingfisher, A Sorceress Comes to Call, also excellent and completely engrossing, plus James, Percival Everett, which is worth the hype, and I think best experienced as an audiobook! Now, on to the 10+ things I bookmarked recently.

one+ The end of August marks the the end of the #20BooksofSummer challenge. I managed to get through 15 books, and you can see my list here. A few short of my goal of 20, but hey, life’s gonna life.

two+ A new month means new book recommendations from Barnes & Noble Most Anticipated Books September 2024. Also The Goodreads Editors’ 16 Book Picks for September and Readers’ 15 Most Anticipated September Books. Which new release are you most looking forward to this month? For me, it’s Here One Moment, Liane Moriarty.

three+ I mentioned above that I just finished reading James, Percival Everett. It’s the retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, but from the point of view of James, not Huck. Here’s a few more Modern Twists on Classics and 8 Classic Retellings for Crime Fiction Fans. Have you read any of these?

four+ September is #SciFiSeptember and this is a perfect time to read something from 9 of the Most Polarizing Science Fiction Books to Love or Hate (highly recommend Kindred, Octavia Butler), or from The 60 Most Popular Science Fiction Books of the Past 3 Years.

five+ When should you admit you hate a book? (A flowchart) – completely funny guide to letting people know – I think this book sucks!

six+ Do you ever have Guilt for Re-Reading? For me – nope! I don’t re-read often, but when I do, it’s usually because I’m in a reading slump and I just need an old favorite.

seven+ What book(s) helped you through a tough time? It was just such a pleasure reading through the comments and seeing the impact of books on everyone’s lives.

eight+ This week Kim shared – 5 Books at the Top of My Spooky Season TBR – and I posted 4 Gateway Books Into Magical Realism.

nine+ Off the Books – Did you see Spotify’s Global Top 5 Songs of Summer? Chosen from their official Spotify Songs of Summer playlist.

ten+ Also Off the BooksWhat are you watching? I recently finished Reasonable Doubt S1. It was so good! I’m ready for S2 which I’m bingeing this bank holiday weekend. Here’s The Literary Film & TV You Need to Stream in September.

—- Cheers to the weekend and week ahead!
